>Literature Update– a perfectionist confesses

October 4, 2009 § Leave a comment

>After scrutinizing bookstores, websites, and my own bookshelves, I’ve arrived at a decision:

I will read The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury to the Upper School. Tomorrow morning, I’ll begin with the prologue. If they seem interested, we’ll read a new chapter each Monday.

It’s exhausting to be a perfectionist. I don’t claim to be perfect, but I do tend to overwork myself when faced with a decision, great or small. There’s a part of me that’s a little annoyed by the amount of time I’ve spent contemplating this book puzzle; I knew I would not rest until I was satisfied with my choice. And I am satisfied. Maybe once I’ve been teaching for a while, I’ll ease up on the pressure.

In the meantime, I will demand everything of myself.
