Visiting hours

It’s been a busy couple of days with Joe’s parents passing through town. On Thursday night, the four of us stopped by Billy’s Bakery for a treat before an art opening at Casey Kaplan where our friend, Megan works. Then we rushed across town for Raging Bull in Tompkins Square Park, introduced by Don King. None of us liked the film, but none of us realized how much the rest of us would have been happy to leave in the middle, so we weathered the pummeling for two hours and change.
On Friday, we started our day with local bagels from The Bagel Store. While Joe and his dad renovated the screen door, I began the treacherous work of pulling microscopic stickers off of our geometric stencil for the mural project.

In two hours, I had covered about ten inches in length (out of eight feet) and two-feet of width of the pattern. We’ve decided to change directions with the mural, so that we can have time to do more projects in the coming months. Joe is printing larger stencils of the same geometric pattern, and we will incorporate both sizes into the final piece.
We finally made it over to Lobster Joint for dinner, which was good, but will not replace Mermaid Inn as my go-to for seafood. We picked up Nukah and headed over to Boulevard Tavern to play rummy in the garden. It was all-you-can-eat BBQ night, which turned out to be a dangerous night to bring Nukah to the bar. The grill master gave Nukah his first hot dog and I’m pretty sure Nukah fell in love right then and there.

Joe’s parents designed a beautiful stained glass image of Prospect Park, handcrafted by Joe’s dad as a wedding gift to us. He carved our wedding date in the glass as well.

This morning we woke up and had breakfast in the garden before Joe’s parents left.

Tomorrow we head to Fire Island for the annual Invasion. I can’t wait to be back in the Grove! Get me to the beach!
