Hot Sun and Cold Milk

July 1, 2012 Comments Off on Hot Sun and Cold Milk

So many good things happening right now. This weekend included a trip to the Central Park Zoo, a cooling off at the Metropolitan Museum, and some much-needed regrouping with my pack. We are conquering this heatwave together, and we’ve been forced to find creative ways to stave off the boiling temperatures. (Currently Zevi is watching Pee-Wee’s Playhouse for the first time.)

For the past several months, I’ve had an abundance of breast milk stored in our freezer and today I was able to donate a good amount of my supply to a lovely new friend, who will be unable to breastfeed due to cancer treatments. I love the postmodernism of this whole boundaryless body idea. To share a part of me that is already helping to create one healthy and happy baby with another baby is pretty amazing. There’s nutrition and nourishment to go around. I had been unable to decide what to do with my extra production and now I have a found perfect source. Donating my milk is a much better solution than making breast milk ice cream. Now that I’ve found a donor, I have more motivation to pump and freeze. Best of all, once her baby is born, I’ll get to meet her and know I am helping her become healthy.
