Our goal is to take Zevi to a museum at least once a month and this month, she visited a museum just under the wire. Today Zevi and I tagged along with Joe’s classes as he led a field trip to one of my favorite places, Dia:Beacon.

We spent more time than I am accustomed to giving to the artist, Richard Serra’s work. His art demands attention and he exhausts me with his macho sculptures. But Zevi loved being inside his large-scale metal pieces, and so I was forced to experience them too. Next time we go to the Dia, I’m going to try to encourage more interaction with Louise Bourgeois’ Crouching Spider.

Perhaps Zevi and I will find separate loves in the world of modern and post-modern art. She’s already challenging me to accept Richard Serra. I can only hope she continues to become a strong, independent (dare I say fierce?) woman. No pressure.
