And the hat came back, they thought he was a goner…

Sometimes things come back to you and maybe it’s karma or maybe it’s just other people being good people. Our wonderful nanny made hats for our children for Hanukkah.
When the children arrived at their play spot, our nanny asked Zevi for the monkey hat, but Zevi pointed at our nanny, understanding that she had taken the hat. We are guessing that Zevi tried to pass it out of the stroller and thought our nanny took the hat, when in reality it fell to the ground. They decided to take their chances and play for an hour before bundling back up to go look for the monkey hat. As they were leaving, our nanny said, “Let’s go find the monkey hat!” A man who was standing nearby asked our nanny if she meant a hat that sort of looked like a sock monkey, and our nanny confirmed this. He said, “I found that hat and stuck it on a gate.” He walked with them to the spot, but the monkey hat was gone and in its place, someone had set a black baseball cap! Who wants that?
That evening I wrote a note, pleading with the local parent listserv to return said hat if found. Not a peep from anyone. Crushed, we continued our daily routines, losing a little more hope every day. A couple days passed and as we were walking back to the same activity center where our nanny and the kids were going when the monkey hat went missing, I looked up at the skatepark to see our old friend, smiling down at us from the fence.
Nobody except the monkey hat will ever know the adventures it had before returning to close to the scene of the crime.
Welcome home, monkey hat. You’ve had a good scrubbing and are ready to go back into use. The babies are happy to see you again.
It’s a Hanukkah miracle!
